Retinopathy of prematurity is serious condition of retina caused by premature birth, which, when untreated, can lead to loss of eyesight. 11,4% of cases of loss of eyesight in children in Poland are caused by retinopathy of prematurity. To put matters simply, if a child is born too early, its retina is not developed completely and the risk of losing eyesight caused by retinopathy is consequently higher.
