Today we celebrate the Ophthalmology Day
On 9 May in Poland, we celebrate the Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmology Day – a very special date for the GOCC Foundation. Since 2001 we have run the Prevention of Retinopathy of Prematurity Programme!
Kuba got one point in Apgar scale - he weighed only 540 grammes, which is the same as half a packet of sugar! He could not breathe on his own, and he had to be aspirated until he began breathing independently at 6 months old. The equipment used to save little Kuba's life was all marked with the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity heart stickers.
Kuba required complex therapy and rehabilitation - he exercised his speech and his parents worked hard with therapists and teachers to improve his skills. Now he is the life of every game - playing with his friends and enjoying his free time!

Five days before the 32nd Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, we visited the 'Pomnik - Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka' (Children's Memorial Health Institute) to ceremoniously inaugurate the first Ophthalmic Simulation Laboratory in Europe dedicated exclusively to the field of peadiatric ophthalmology.
Warsaw, Poland, the world! The enthusiasm which exploded in our country in 1993 has reached the most distant corners of the world in a flash. Already during the very first Grand Finale, we were present across the ocean!
