The Chairman of the Board of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation has launched a new awareness campaign which will go together with the purchase of a completely new type of equipment for paediatric hospitals.
The Foundation's Board decided to purchase fold-out beds and recliners for parents and guardians who visit their children - often staying by their side for the duration of their treatment. Parents are on hand to feed and care for the little patients, often helping medical professionals and they play an essential role in the recovery process, limiting stress and comforting children. We agree with specialists when they cite stress as one of the main inhibitors of the recovery process, and the support of members of the family proves to limit negative outcome of child's stay at a hospital. Unfortunately, not all hospitals have the facilities for parents staying with their children - there are no beds, no chairs and the constricted space often requires the parents to sleep on the floor or resort to cruising between the hospital and their home. We want to change it by providing hospitals with furniture for parents, which is to be made available to the parents free of charge. We have already made our first purchase: 438 pieces of furniture will be delivered to paediatric hospitals in Poland.
We have also issued an official appeal to hospital management - we want to hear their input on what steps are to be taken to comprehensively change the situation at the paediatric wards in the entire country - to make it possible for parents and doctors to care for little patients hand in hand and in dignified, stress-free environment.
