World First Aid Day has been officially established in 2000 at the initiative of International Red Cross to promote and celebrate first aid awareness. Each year we try to do something to commemorate this day and show our commitment to sharing first aid and CPR knowledge. This year World First Aid Day coincided with the Polish Non-Governmental Organizations Forum, so we decided to take this opportunity to teach first aid to citizens and tourists walking along the historic Krakowskie Przedmieście street.
Qualified instructors and members of the Peace Patrol taught children and adults the basics of first aid and CPR. They also explained how to behave and whom to call if we are on site of an accident or have seen someone collapse on the street or at home. We have quite an experience at teaching youngest students - we run and finance educational initiative, known as CPR for Schools Programme, where primary school teachers receive training on how to teach their students to save lives. More than 92% of primary schools in Poland are active in the project!
