Today we celebrate the Ophthalmology Day
On 9 May in Poland, we celebrate the Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmology Day – a very special date for the GOCC Foundation. Since 2001 we have run the Prevention of Retinopathy of Prematurity Programme!
World Mental Health Day is meant to showcase the importance of emotional well-being and shine a light on the issues of mental health. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity initiated a comprehensive project of improvement at psychiatric wards for children and young adults. We have already purchased equipment and furniture for 34 wards at Polish hospitals which treat children and young people with mental health problems.
As we want to provide comprehensive, efficient and expeditious support to the most vulnerable patients and doctors, we teamed up with the Polish Senate to hold a debate on the procedures we need to implement to improve the overall conditions at psychiatric wards in the country. We would like to consult specialists, researchers, doctors, and politicians on the best course of action regarding the conditions at psychiatric wards. We need to introduce a complete overhaul of the system, where children and young people can receive support in a comfortable, safe environment and where doctors can rely on modern, effective methods of treatment.

On 5 December, we organized the 68th Open Tender dedicated to the aim of the 30th Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, i.e. paediatric ophthalmology.
Five days before the 32nd Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, we visited the 'Pomnik - Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka' (Children's Memorial Health Institute) to ceremoniously inaugurate the first Ophthalmic Simulation Laboratory in Europe dedicated exclusively to the field of peadiatric ophthalmology.
