We Will Overcome!

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity decided to allow private individuals to donate in aid of COVID-19 Relief Fund. From today (April 1, 2020) everyone, not only businesses and corporate entities, can give in aid of COVID-19 Relief Fund. The fight against the worldwide pandemic requires everyone to stand together so that each citizen can support Polish hospitals and frontline medical staff.

Jurek Owsiak, chairman of the board of the Foundation, issued a statement on Facebook.

It reads:

My fellow citizens,

We decided to open our COVID-19 Relief Fund for donations from individuals. We encourage those of you who can donate, to support us in our initiative to fight coronavirus in Poland. We received support from our business and corporate sponsors and partner. However, we received an outcry for a civic, nationwide drive to help Polish hospitals.

First of all, we want to use the money we raised to purchase personal protection for our brave frontline medical staff and buy medical equipment which is necessary to fight the virus.

Personal protection equipment, such as coveralls, masks, and protective gloves, will be delivered to hospitals which did not receive sufficient support from the state. We will focus on gynaecology and obstetrics departments, paediatric and neonatal units. All items will be delivered as we purchase them.

Hospitals can address their requests for equipment to [email protected]. We will analyse each request and get in touch to determine if we can help. Our first shipment of 50 000 sets of personal protection equipment is planned for April 9. We are working to finalise further purchases, but the success of our initiative is dependent on the international situation and the efficiency with which we can organise flights to bring the supplies to Poland.

Our charity decided to use its resources to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland. We already made an order for 150 beds for intensive care units, where patients with COVID-19 will be treated. The cost of these specialised beds, which ensure the comfort and safety of patients, amounts to over PLN 4 000 000. The board of our charity has also decided to sign a contract for the purchase of personal protection equipment for our brave frontline medical staff. The cost of PPE sets consisting of coveralls with boots, protective goggles, two pairs of glasses, protective mask with valve amounts to PLN 16 000 000. The GOCC has also secured the purchase of 157 cardiac monitors, 3000 coronavirus tests and testing device for ONCOLAB laboratory
